Information and curiosities
The direction of rotation is defined by looking at the fan from the transmission or motor side. It is distinguished between clockwise rotation (RD) and counterclockwise rotation (LG). Centrifugal fans allow a total of 16 different orientation positions, of which 8 are for clockwise rotation (RD) and 8 for counterclockwise rotation (LG). The standard positions follow angles of 0°, 45°, 90°, 135°, 180°, 225°, 270°, and 315°.
In transmission machines, these letters define the position of the motor in relation to the shaft:
- Z: engine to the left of the propeller shaft.
- X and Y: special positions used in case of particular space requirements.
- W: engine to the right of the propeller shaft.
The basic configuration uses Fe360 (S 235 JR) steel sheet for both the casing and the impeller. All impellers are statically and dynamically balanced to ensure proper, vibration-free operation. For applications involving aggressive chemicals or in the food industry, fans are made of stainless steel. Specifically, AISI 304L is used, which offers good anti-corrosion properties with thermal resistance up to 400°C, or AISI 316L, which is suitable for environments with higher corrosive risk and peak temperatures up to 500°C. For the pneumatic transport of very hard or highly abrasive materials, MZ Aspiratori uses special steels with high surface hardness such as HARDOX 400 or CREUSABRO 4000. These materials are usually applied to the impeller blades and the back of the scroll to slow down the erosive action of the transported fluid.
The standard base color for MZ Aspiratori fans is RAL 5010, gentian blue. The impellers are usually painted with gray or aluminum-colored enamel, while the protective casings are RAL 2002, pure orange, as standard. For stainless steel fans up to size 710, the standard treatment is micro-shot peening. For larger sizes, or for mixed stainless steel and carbon fans, an external coating in RAL 9007 is applied. The standard coating is based on Qualicoat polyester powder, polymerized at 200°C, for an average thickness of 70 microns, with an average thermal resistance of 150°C and peaks of up to 180°C. Two special treatments are available for extreme conditions. HOTBLACK is a matte black silicone coating, suitable for applications up to 450-500°C. DOUBLEZINC includes a double layer, zinc primer plus polyester powder, for a thickness of 110-120 microns, designed for superior anti-corrosion protection.
Products and solutions
In axial fans, air enters and exits along cylindrical surfaces coaxial with the impeller, making them suitable for moving large volumes at low pressure, typically in warehouses and warehouses. In centrifugal fans, air enters the impeller axially and exits perpendicular to its axis, a configuration that generates higher pressures and is therefore suitable for overcoming significant air resistance, such as when transporting fumes, dust, or materials through long ducts. Yes. Yes. It is possible to upgrade or replace just the fan to improve the overall efficiency of the system, subject to a technical compatibility assessment. In these cases, we verify that the new fan reproduces the correct operating point on the characteristic curve of the existing system, thus avoiding the operating point shifting too far to the left or right of the curve, resulting in increased noise and power consumption while maintaining the same performance.
These machines are designed to operate in potentially explosive atmospheres due to the presence of gas, vapors, or combustible dust, in compliance with European Directive 2014/34/EU. Risk zones are classified according to their level of danger. For gas, these are Zone 0 (constant or prolonged presence of an explosive atmosphere), Zone 1 (probable under normal conditions), and Zone 2 (possible only rarely and for short periods). For combustible dust, the equivalent classifications are Zone 20, Zone 21, and Zone 22. Depending on the zone, the fan must fall into a specific category and meet constructional protection criteria against ignition sources. We distribute WEG motors in efficiency classes IE3 and IE4, available in the W21 aluminum and W22 cast iron series. Choosing the right motor depends on the type of system, the duty cycle, and the energy efficiency requirements of EU Regulation 327/2011 on the ecodesign of fans, which requires a minimum efficiency level that varies based on the type of impeller and the installed power.
Advanced insights
Parallel installation doubles the flow rate while maintaining constant pressure and is the typical choice when large volumes of air need to be moved. In this case, the fans must be identical and the system must be well-balanced, otherwise the flow rate will be unbalanced between the two branches. Series installation adds the pressures while maintaining a constant flow rate and is ideal for overcoming high resistance. In this case, it is essential that the two fans have the same flow rate, and since their power draws are different, special configurations with dual-shaft motors are often used for high-pressure systems.
The fan must be positioned within minimum distances from fixed barriers to avoid turbulence, backpressure, and performance losses. These distances are expressed as a function of the fan’s internal flange diameter. When the fan is connected to ducts, two additional criteria must also be met: a minimum cross-section equal to that of the fan for a section whose length depends on the duct diameter, and the straightness of the ducts with a constant cross-section for a minimum distance also expressed as a function of the diameter.
The performance declared in the catalog refers to standard conditions, air at +20°C and 0 meters above sea level, with a reference density of 1.205 kg/m³. If the system operates at higher or lower temperatures, or at altitude, the air density changes and with it the actual behavior of the fan. In these cases, the volumetric flow rate remains independent of the temperature, while total pressure, absorbed power, and mass flow rate must be recalculated based on the new density, to avoid undersizing or oversizing the machine.
In addition to the standard polyester powder coating, which has an average thermal resistance of 150°C with peaks of up to 180°C, special coatings are available for more demanding applications, such as matte black silicone coatings for temperatures up to 450-500°C, or a double layer of zinc and polyester paint for greater corrosion resistance. For aggressive environments or those with corrosive agents, AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel constructions or hot-dip galvanizing are available, with some technical limitations related to the size and shape of the impeller.

Yes. During the configuration phase, we verify that the fan sizing (flow rate Q, total pressure Ht, rotation speed n) is consistent with the operating point required by the system, and that the combined electric motor complies with the maximum permissible PD2 constraints, to avoid the motor failing to start the impeller or being damaged during start-up.
Support continues even after delivery, with technical assistance upon request, supply of original spare parts (impellers, bearings, seals, electrical components) and submission of compliance documentation, including declarations of incorporation and ATEX certifications where applicable.
